Many thanks to Doug Weed, New Hope Mills, for hosting an amazing breakfast and factory tour at his Auburn location. We even got to wear cool hats – and were able to shop at the terrific café – so worth a beautiful drive to a beautiful destination, where Doug has done a fantastic job of replicating the old mill. From antique sawblades and pulleys hanging on the wall to the old safe on a shelf to the flooring, tables and silverware holders, the new café space has many extra parts and elements of the old mill. A family affair in the making, it is an art project, not a construction project, according to Doug.
We all enjoyed the breakfast and the tour for sure (who knew pancakes could even be made that big!) - but more than that, we all reflected on the values system that propels Doug, his family and his employees. Just walking into the restaurant and seeing the history that he has taken such care to preserve – along with the people who take pride in what they do - truly a rural company that recognizes the greatness within.
Doug, it was a pleasure and thank you for hosting our FBC members.
